New Underground Car Park Inaugurated in Armenian Capital

May 25, 2010 |11:28 | Car Parking  By : Team X

New Underground Car Park Inaugurated in Armenian CapitalConstruction in Liberty Square began several months after security forces had dispersed the tent camp of the Armenian opposition protesting the outcome of the disputed 2008 presidential election. The opposition has insisted all along that the decision was aimed at preventing its members from staging more rallies at the square, which had turned into a popular place for political gatherings. The accusations have been denied by the government. City authorities now hope the new facility will take the burden off the nearby streets where traffic is often complicated because of the accumulation of parked cars.

The new three-storey car park can provide room for up to 500 cars at a time and has been built as part of an urban development investment project presented by the Italian Renco S.p.A company and the Yerevan municipality.

Attending the inauguration of the car park on Monday were Armenian President Serzh Sarkisian, Yerevan Mayor Gagik Beglarian, other officials.

After the opening ceremony President Sarkisian toured the parking facility and the square. He said the car park built by the Italian contractor should set a standard for other such projects in the future.

Looking for parking? Get online

Looking for parking Get online

The next time you plan to going shopping, it might be better to go online first to see if you have a parking space instead of going around in circles at the venue. Looking for parking is biggest pain after the money we spend on fuel, in fact in many cases that's where fuel is spent for most people. However that's not to say for the citizens of San Francisco. Around 6,000 wireless sensors from the San Francisco company Streetline will be fixed alongside as many parking spots, monitoring both parking availability and the volume and speed of passing traffic. The city hopes that displaying information from the sensors on Web maps, smart phones, and signs on the street will reduce the traffic and pollution caused by circling cars. Some parking garages also have signs that tell drivers where the available spaces are, but such systems generally rely on manual car counting, not sensors. In San Francisco, however, clusters of plastic-encased, networked sensors are embedded in the surface of the street. The main sensor in the cluster, which is commonly used to detect cars, is a magnetic one. Magnetic sensors detect when a large metal object locally disrupts Earth's magnetic field. One challenge with magnetic sensors is avoiding false positives.
SmartMesh and Streetline's technology combined gives the nodes an average lifespan of 10 years on only two AA batteries. There are others who feel that London's congestion charge is a better way to reduce the number of cars on busy city streets.

Super snoopers in parking blitz

IT'S the ticking time bomb under your car that could be coming to a street near you.The Parking Overstay Detection System, or PODS, uses sensors in the road to detect the moment a car pulls into a parking spot. If the car stays a second too long, an electronic message is sent to a parking officer, who can arrive quickly to issue a fine.

PODS has proved a revenue-raising success in several Victorian councils. In Melbourne's Maribyrnong Council, for example, the number of infringement notices issued for time-limit breaches jumped from 3734 to 7830 in the year following the installation of the system.

Cleaning and Care of your Car

March 18, 2007 |23:39 | Car Parking  By : Ayesha Shah

Cleaning cars seem like a difficult task for many and they always head to car washing places to get their cars get clean. Following guidelines can help you in keeping your car clean by yourself.

•  Wash your vehicle in the morning or evening to avoid water spots. Add one-third cup of distilled white vinegar to your bucket of wash water to boost the cleaning action and help prevent water spots.
•  Ignoring bugs will cause pits in the paint. Look at the front where the paint has samll chips. You thought those were rock chips. Those are caused from bugs being left on the vehicle.
•  Tires require regular cleaning. Rubber naturally oxidizes with time. That oxidization causes the tire to appear like they are cracking. Scrub tires four times a year with TerraPlus and our Red Scrub Pad to remove the oxidation.

Your Garage Floor

March 15, 2007 |16:44 | Car Parking  By : Asim Akbani

The garage in the house may not necessarily be a home for your car. More often than not, it is a storehouse of odd junk or gets converted into a workshop or a game room.

However one ends up using the garage space, one never pays much attention to the garage floor. But depending on how one uses the garage space, it makes sense to check out the floor and do it up accordingly. For example, if the garage has been converted into a game room, then don’t you think that a pleasant carpet on the floor will make it a nicer place?

All things considered, one must see what use one is making of this garage space. Based on that, several options are available in the market to make the garage flooring better and more suitable for your needs.

If you are using the garage area as a workshop, then it makes sense to use a good paint to cover up the garage floor. You get paint that is made specifically for floors and won’t peel off from the concrete floor. This kind of paint will absorb all the oil stains and make the surface of the floor good looking at the same time. For this, though, you will have to clean the surface of the floor thoroughly before you paint. Be careful, though, as this floor can be slippery if you have children who will be playing about the garage.

Another option is floor mats. These are also equally good as they absorb the oil and grease stains, and are non-conductive. This is a very good option for garage floors when you are using the garage as a workshop area. This can also be a good option when you are using the area as a game room. The garage floor mats are just rolled out over the area of the garage floor. They come in a variety of shapes and sizes, colors and patterns to suit your needs. Alternatively, you can even think about decorative concrete flooring. These come in a variety of designs which will suit your home design or décor. In areas of cold climates, you can even think about in-floor heating tiles.

Having gone through all these options, you cannot rule out the time tested options of vinyl or linoleum for your garage floor. Depending upon your budget and the time available for this project, you can either do it yourself, or hire professionals to do this job for you.

Remember that a good garage floor will only add value to the look of your house.

Garages

March 14, 2007 |22:34 | Car Parking  By : Hardesh Hira

In the western countries we find a lot of home garages built with your house or lodge where you can park your vehicle safe and sound. The tradition of home garages in the eastern countries is quite less and in Pakistan we don’t find it much. People just park their car inside the premises of their homes usually without any cover on top of it. Many do park them right along with their garden area, where the pollution of the car can damage the beauty and charm of the flowers or plants. Garage is not only important in your house for parking of cars and protection of it , it makes a whole quite a difference if there is a place where you can keep the small First Aid Kit of the Vehicle i.e. its spare parts which you can easily change or the Jack of it to change the tire when needed or just wash the car on a Sunday morning.
Garages for your cars as are as important as a soft bed for a pet in the house. If we let the pet run by in the house without keeping its care we just let if get hurt. Similarly, the car needs the maintenance and the attention so that it may run longer and far most the garage just adds another rather sophisticated and decent look to the house.
