When Matt Damon and John Legend arrive on Saturday evening to help host an intimate Toronto party for ONEXONE, the Canadian foundation that raises money for children around the world, they will likely feel as if they’ve just stepped into someone’s ultra-luxurious home. Except that the setting, located near the Toronto International Film Festival’s new Bell Lightbox, is neither a private residence nor an event space. It’s a presentation sales centre for Bisha, a forthcoming hotel and condominium development.

The connection benefits everyone. Event organizers will get a beautifully designed party space. The developers get to promote their product to hip, affluent potential buyers – and any stars who show up lend their cachet to the development. Perhaps that’s why the same arrangement is unfolding just north of Yorkville, where another condo sales centre, for Pears on the Avenue, is being taken over by Toro Magazine, public-relations firm NKPR and local catering company Catering With Style for four nights during TIFF.

Because a bedroom has to keep a comforting aura, many take time out to choose the furniture and pieces that goes into it. Like any other room in the house, the things in it must fit the function of the room and the available space in it. Design and the price of the furniture are two of the top concerns of people when getting fixtures for their bedroom and for the rest of the house. Furniture makes or breaks the look of the house, and so care must be exercised while choosing what to get. While design and price are valid considerations, there are other factors that need to be considered but are totally ignored by many. Every room in your house has its own identity and tells a little bit about the person you are, so make sure your bathroom tells the right story about you with . A perfect way to start would be to analyse the theme of your house and try to match the bathroom to the rest of your house but at the same time making it stand apart. Sound confusing? Well don’t worry as LoveGlass are here to show you how to do it in a stylish way.

Make sure you firstly consider theme and colour, the two broadest yet important categories when decorating. Try and keep the theme the same as the rest of the house but change the colour for the bathroom. For example, if you have designed your home with a contemporary look then the bathroom must further reflect this look. Go for sleek, stylish fixtures without the frilly and flamboyant accessories that can often be seen lurking around in bathrooms.

Recently a friend mentioned she needed a table on which she could place a lamp and some antique “smalls” (collectibles). She didn’t want a reproduction, but she had no clue what type table she wanted. Visiting her home, I saw the furnishings were more in the style of the 18th century, so I showed her pictures of tilt-top tables that were common in that period both here and in England.

I advised her to look for a functional table that had character, nice lines, was in good condition and crafted of either walnut or mahogany, the more desirable woods when searching for period furniture. The two also are more expensive than, say, oak.

When people don’t feel at home within their own four walls, trendy accessories, designer furniture and the newest lifestyle trends can’t do much to help. When decorating their homes, people should recognize that only those who consider themselves and their needs are happy when they return home.

“What is good for a person and what isn’t is played out to a large extent in the subconscious,” said Uwe Linke, a life psychologist and author from Munich. Linke said in order to find out why people don’t feel well in their homes, they need to do an honest assessment and the decisive question is: “Which decorative items fit me and which don’t?” People who are insecure feel better, for example, when their need for security is taken into account in the design of their homes.
