A West Valley woman is happy to be alive after an out-of-control SUV crashed into her home Tuesday night. Christine Dever says she was out to dinner with her 4-year-old son when the car broke through the wall of her home near 6400 West and 4100 South, stopping in her living room.
The first clue Dever had that there was a problem was that her landlord sent her a text message asking if she was OK. She asked what was going on, and the landlord said "You need to get home right now."
The accident also forced the shutdown of natural gas lines because of a possible break. Questar crews are now working to repair the lines but have evacuated the duplex while they do so. Dever is now waiting anxiously to get back inside and see if there is anything salvageable. "Everything in that house I've had for at least eight years, longer," Dever said. "You can't even see the wall. It's completely torn apart."
The only person who was injured was the SUV's driver, and his injuries were minor. Investigators say there were no indications that the driver was under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Rather, they suspect an underlying medical condition is to blame for the erratic driving.
